At Atlanta Plastic Surgery, P.C., we have been performing cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery procedures for men and women from throughout the southeast and around the world for nearly fifty years. In that time we have seen attitudes towards plastic surgery evolve a great deal. Just in the last year alone, more than 17 million men and women have chosen to undergo cosmetic plastic surgery or minimally-invasive, non-surgical procedures, more than doubling the number performed of such procedure performed back in 2000. However, despite the ever-increasing popularity and general acceptance of plastic surgery, many people still are unaware of exactly what sort of options are available. Here is a quick visual overview of just some of the many things that can be accomplished with surgical and non-surgical plastic surgery procedures.
Atlanta Plastic Surgery, P.C. combines experience and innovation to help you reach your aesthetic goals and provide you with the best experience from start to finish. Whether you are interested in reducing the size of your nose, enhancing the projection of your chin, or just giving your entire face a smoother and more youthful appearance, many men and women have minor things that they would like to change about their facial features. Years ago, patients who were interested in facial rejuvenation would often gravitate towards full facelift procedures, designed to treat many of the signs of facial aging from across the entire face. However today, advancements in technology and surgical techniques make it possible to customize cosmetic procedures specifically to address key areas of the face in order to give patients the type of plastic surgery results they desire.
Upper Face
Often, one of the first areas to exhibit signs of facial aging is the upper third of the face, above the eyebrows and below the hairline. As we age, loss of skin elasticity and the constant repetition of facial expressions can cause vertical frown lines to form between the eyebrows and deep furrows or creases to form in the forehead. A forehead lift, also known as a brow lift and endoscopic brow lift, can remove excess skin and subtly tighten underlying muscles, giving the area a more lifted and rejuvenated look.
Middle Face
The area of the face between the top of the cheekbones and the jaw line is often best addressed with a short-scar mini-facelift procedure, a less-invasive refinement of a traditional facelift designed to exclusively target this region. A mini-facelift is frequently combined with fat transfer techniques which use fat taken from other areas of the patient’s own body to replenish lost facial volume, further reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and nasolabial folds while giving the cheeks a fuller and more rounded appearance, similar to what they once had when they were younger.
Lower Face
When excess skin begins to sag and droop beneath the line of the jaw, it can often form loose folds around the neck, producing what is commonly known as a “turkey waddle” or “double chin.” This excess, sagging skin can usually be removed and the area made to look more smooth and youthful through the use of a neck lift procedure. In many cases, a neck lift is performed in conjunction with liposuction to remove accumulated fat that may have migrated into the neck area, further defining the lines of the jaw and giving the neck a more slender and graceful contour.
Every face is unique, and it is best to seek a detailed consultation with an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon to determine which specific facial rejuvenation techniques might be right for you. If you are interested in scheduling a consultation with one of the board certified plastic surgeons at Atlanta Plastic Surgery, please contact us in Alpharetta, or at one of our other Atlanta area offices located in Sandy Springs (Northside), Newnan, or Cumming, to schedule a full consultation. For nearly half a century, Atlanta Plastic Surgery, P.C. has been providing men and women from throughout the southeastern United States, and around the world, with exceptional cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery services. In that time, plastic surgery has changed a great deal. Gone are the days when a one-size-fits-all facelift procedure might leave a patient looking unnaturally stretched and wind-blown. Instead, today’s patients can choose from a wide array of highly specialized facial plastic surgery procedures that can specifically address key areas of concern in order to deliver individually customized and natural looking plastic surgery results.
Not every face ages at the same rate, and even in the same patient some areas of the face may start to exhibit signs of facial aging before others. This is why different facial plastic surgery procedures were invented. By limiting their focus to either the upper, middle, or lower third of the face, these techniques not only make subtle changes that blend seamlessly with the face’s natural contours, but also prevent sagging skin and wrinkles from compounding over time, effectively postponing the age at which more comprehensive procedures might otherwise have become necessary. Brow lifts can smooth deep forehead furrows and frown lines, mini-facelifts can remove or reposition excess fat in the cheeks or under the eyes, and full facelifts or neck lifts can specifically tighten the lower jaw region while removing fat from under the neck and jowls. Advanced technology and surgical techniques have improved all of these procedures over the years, so that they are less invasive and require shorter recovery times than ever before, making them ideal of patients with active and busy lifestyles.
Moreover, plastic surgery procedures focused on the areas around the face can also help achieve a rejuvenated appearance. Over time, skin gradually loses its elasticity and fat in the face slowly begins to slide downward, often collecting in the chin and neck. This can create the appearance of sagging jowls, a double chin, or the proverbial “turkey neck.” A neck lift can tighten the skin and reposition excess fat and muscle tissue, helping to give the entire area underneath the face a more attractive and youthful contour. Liposuction is often used to further refine contours by removing small, isolated fat deposits, and the fat removed during liposuction can frequently be used in fat transfer procedures to restore lost volume from other areas of the face. Finally, the surface skin can be given a more smooth and even texture with laser skin resurfacing procedures or chemical peels. When performed after plastic surgery, these treatments can also help encourage the skin’s natural healing processes and minimize the appearance of post-surgical scars.
All in all, facial plastic surgery can do more for patients today than ever before. If you are interested in learning more about any of the facial rejuvenation or any of the other cosmetic or reconstructive plastic surgery procedures that we offer, please contact Atlanta Plastic Surgery, P.C. at one of our Atlanta, Alpharetta, Cumming, or Newnan offices to schedule a consultation. The human face is made up of more than forty distinct muscles, each capable of their own intricate movements. Together, they can form countless individual wrinkle-causing expressions and, because they are all interconnected, even the smallest change can potentially give the face an entirely different appearance. This is just one of the many reasons that minor facial plastic surgery procedures have become so popular. While comprehensive techniques like a full facelift or neck lift can provide large-scale rejuvenation while correcting several areas of concern at once, smaller-scale changes in specific areas can frequently achieve impressive, but less obvious, results. As you may be aware if you follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Google+, patients who are interested in making subtle changes to the contours of their face have several different approaches to choose from.
Balancing the Nose and the Chin
Many people are unsatisfied with the size or shape of their nose, but few realize that its appearance is affected a great deal by the other features of the face, specifically the chin and jawline. Oftentimes patients seeking dramatic nose surgery, or rhinoplasty, may be better served by making subtle, nearly undetectable changes to the lower face. These facial contouring procedures can provide better facial balance, changing the appearance of the nose within the context of the entire face.
Smoothing and Shaping the Ears
The effect of the ears on the appearance of the face can be easy to overlook, but they can often play a significant role in balancing the facial features. Cosmetic otoplasty, or ear surgery, can make seemingly minor changes to the size or projection of the ears, which can, in turn, draw attention to or de-emphasize other features, subtly improving facial aesthetics without the need for more extensive facial plastic surgery or prolonged recovery times.
Drawing Focus to the Eyes
The eyes are the primary focal points of the face, the one place that is the center of all personal interaction, so when under eye bags and sagging skin make them look small and tired the entire face looks less attractive. A blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, uses tiny, virtually invisible incisions to remove fat deposits and excess sagging skin from the upper and/or lower eyelids, giving the eyes a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance without dramatically changing your overall appearance.
Every face ages differently and not every procedure will be an appropriate fit for every patient. A thorough consultation with one of our experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons is the best way to determine exactly what approach is the best solution for your particular areas of concern. If you are interested in learning more about the other cosmetic plastic surgery procedures that we perform, please contact Atlanta Plastic Surgery, P.C. at one of our Atlanta, Alpharetta, Cumming, or Newnan offices. We have a variety of financing options, like Alphaeon® and CareCredit®, that can assist you in achieving your personal aesthetic goals.
With all of the information available on-line about plastic surgery from health sites and social media platforms like Facebook or Twitter, it can be easy to get overwhelmed and a bit confused. That’s why, when you are considering undergoing any plastic surgery procedure, it is always a good idea to do your homework. Prospective patients often spend months or even years reading plastic surgery reviews, checking board certification, and carefully examining pictures of previous patients, just to make sure they have chosen the plastic surgeon that is right for them. While taking the necessary time to thoroughly research all of your options and carefully make an educated choice is one of the best ways to avoid any unfortunate mishaps down the line, it is not the only thing that you can do. Here are five relatively simple steps that you can take to help ensure that your recovery proceeds as smoothly and as quickly as possible and that you achieve the best possible plastic surgery results.
Start off Healthy
Ironically, the road to a smooth recovery often starts before the procedure even begins. Any surgery is going to place a good deal of stress on the body, and being in the best physical condition possible beforehand makes bouncing back from that stress easier. Patients who are overweight, underweight, or who have preexisting health conditions like high blood pressure are often at increased risk for post-surgical complications. Before surgery, work towards getting as close to your ideal weight as possible by eating nutritiously and exercising regularly.
Follow Instructions
Make your doctor aware of all your pertinent medical details, from your general activity level to any supplements and vitamins you plan to take, so that they can develop a plan specifically suited to your needs. Then follow that plan, scrupulously! Make sure that you attend all post-operative appointments without fail so that any potential problems can be addressed before they become serious. Take advantage of your surgeon’s knowledge and expertise by keeping the lines of communication open.
Mind Your Medication
Many drugs and herbal supplements can interact in unexpected ways, so work with your surgeon to arrive at a post-surgical medication plan that will work for you. Patients can have very different levels of pain tolerance, so don’t feel anxious about taking your prescribed pain medication. In fact, pain triggers the body’s natural stress response, increasing the blood pressure, and this increase could potentially increase bruising and exacerbate the appearance of scars. Don’t forget to take all of your prescribed antibiotics to avoid infection and follow your doctor’s guidelines regarding any other medications and herbal supplements.
Don’t Smoke
Smoking is never good for you, but it can be particularly dangerous before and immediately after major surgery. Smoking compromises lung function and blood flow, effectively delaying the healing process. Also avoid alcohol, caffeine, and any other products that can adversely affect blood clotting, like Motrin, Vitamin E, and many herbal supplements, as these can also have adverse effects on your recovery. Your surgeon will provide you with a complete list of substances that can impede your recovery.
Get Up and Get Moving
Although you should avoid any rigorous exercise after surgery, as increasing your heart rate will also increase your blood pressure, there is no reason to lie around doing nothing. Short walks around the house or even outside to get some fresh air can be tremendously beneficial and help you to get over the constipation that can be a side effect of anesthesia, prescription pain relievers, and overall changes to your body.
If you have any questions about whether or not a particular activity is advisable, it is important to consult with your surgeon at one of your post-operative sessions. By maintaining an open line of communication, you can go a long way towards ensuring that your recovery is ultimately successful.
