Atlanta Plastic Surgery has been one of the premier centers for cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery in the Southeast for nearly fifty years. In that time, our board certified plastic surgeons have seen attitudes towards plastic surgery change a great deal. One of the most interesting trends that we’ve observed is the growing acceptance of facial plastic surgery procedures among men. Looking young and vital has increasingly become a key factor in determining career success and even men at the top of their careers are sometimes worried that they may look much older than they feel. A variety of cosmetic plastic surgery procedures can give them a competitive edge by helping them look and feel more confident.
Many people associate a strong jaw line and prominent chin with leadership and authority and subtle facial contouring surgery can often achieve that result. Genioplasty, a procedure that shapes and sculpts the chin to bring it into harmonious proportion with the rest of the facial features, continues to grow in popularity among men each year. In fact, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), men currently account for more than half (53%) of the genioplasty procedures performed in the United States. Moreover, blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, has become an extremely popular way for men to help treat and reduce the sagging eyelids and puffy, under-eye bags that can occur as the face becomes older. By removing excess skin and tiny fat deposits, a blepharoplasty can give the eyes, and the entire face, a refreshed and more youthful looking appearance.
Even more impressive, however, is the number of men who have undergone non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments. The number of men choosing to receive Botox® cosmetic injections, for example, has increased by more than 300% since 2000. Designed to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes, Botox® can often significantly reduce the signs of facial aging with only a single, 10-minute treatment and without lengthy surgical downtime. More and more men have also started using facial fillers like Juvéderm® and Restylane® to help restore volume to facial features that started to sag and droop with age.
Age and experience are traits to be envied, but there’s no reason that you have to look the part.
